SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Coordinator provides direct services and support to victims of sexual assault and works to improve the continuity of survivor-centered services. They provide in-person accompaniment services, crisis counseling, advocacy, and follow-up to survivors of sexual violence. The SART Coordinator ensures staffing of the 24-hour accompaniment crisis calendar and is on-call Monday through Friday between 8 am-5 pm. Other duties include training advocates on protocol, providing police briefings to law enforcement and education to our local schools, and attending case reviews with our community partners in line with the Coalition’s mission.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fundamental Job Requirements

● Create monthly schedule for the 24-Hour Accompaniment Calendar for our Rape Crisis Advocates, and support shifts on
the calendar.
● Respond to accompaniment calls within one (1) hour of receiving notice and follow up with survivors within three days of
initial contact.
● Provide crisis counseling and in-person accompaniment services to victims of sexual violence at Safe Harbors, medical
facilities, police stations, and other approved locations in Ventura County.
● Provide support and referrals to clients in need of counseling, shelter, protective orders, or medical services; collaborate
with other Coalition Coordinators and outside agencies to ensure complete support.
● Create and present training content for advocates, community partners, and our 40-hour Sexual Assault Training on issues
tied to sexual violence and awareness, protocol, trauma-informed practices, and other topics.
● Debrief with Rape Crisis Advocates after crisis calls to provide programmatic and emotional support.
● Develop and distribute sexual assault educational materials to the community (in-person, virtually, social media), including
developing Sexual Assault Awareness Month events.
● Organize the annual SART Speaker Series and SART BBQ to bring advocates, clinicians, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
(SANE), members of law enforcement, etc., together for professional training on trauma-informed practices and social
networking opportunities.
● Work collaboratively with law enforcement, SANEs, medical facilities, the District Attorney’s office, and other community
partners to support survivors of sexual assault.
● Collect all Rape Crisis Center documents from advocates and upload information to our EMPOWER database; complete
and submit all reports to our funders.
● Attend weekly Rape Crisis Center staff meetings and monthly case reviews, as needed.
● Other duties as assigned by Rape Crisis Program Manager.

 

 

Schedule

 The schedule for this position is full-time, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. This employee must make every attempt to
accommodate to the schedule of the program clients.
 Due to the essential functions of this job, including attending accompaniments and providing crisis counseling to survivors
of violence, arriving for your shift on time is an essential requirement.

Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. A flexible schedule may be created with your manager when
work requirements take place outside of regular business hours.
This position is eligible for overtime benefits.

 

 

Educational Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in a psychology, sociology, social services, or other applicable field required, or relevant experience may be substituted.

 

Certifications (Training Provided)
Must obtain Sexual Assault Counselor certification that meets the requirements under California Evidence Code 1305.2
within one year of hire date.
May obtain Domestic Violence Counselor certification that meets the requirements under California Evidence Code 1037.1
within one year of hire date.
Must attend our LGBTQ+ 101 Training within 6 months of hire date

 

 

Knowledge Base/Skills

● Demonstrated excellent public speaking skills ranging from small to very large audiences required.
● Demonstrated ability to provide crisis counseling and work effectively in emotionally charged environments.
● Basic computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
● Ability to prepare and provide basic troubleshooting for various technology, including televisions, CD/DVDs, laptops,
desktop computers, projectors, etc., and basic knowledge of general office equipment is required.
● Regularly expanding knowledge base on topics of gendered violence, impacts of domestic and sexual assault on the
community, working with survivors of violence, and more by reading literature, blog, news posts, etc., is expected.

 

 

Mental/ Social Requirements 

● Must be able to demonstrate working effectively with and showing respect to all survivors of violence, including those
from diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socioeconomic, sexual preferences and/or identities, gender identities/expression,
and political backgrounds.
● Ability to communicate clearly and professionally verbally and in writing is required.
● The ability to demonstrate navigating crisis and solving problems independently and using one’s own initiative, using best
judgment and critical thinking skills is required.
● Must maintain a positive, friendly, and welcoming attitude with staff, community members, clients, and volunteers.
● Must utilize assertiveness, professionalism, and non-violent communication when addressing concerns with staff,
community members, clients, and volunteers.

 

 

Physical Requirements

 Ability to speak English fluently is a requirement. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.
 Must have the ability to communicate with clientele and community members over phone, electronic correspondence,
and in-person.
 The fundamental job requirements occur inside our Main Office, a 5 th floor office suite with elevator access, as well as in
various sites around Ventura County. Central air and heating is available at the Main Office.
 May be required to stand, sit, stoop, bend, and lift/move up to 20 lbs.
 May be required to pull rolling outreach cart (up to 20lbs) to different events and set up a canopy.
 Must have the ability to drive a motor vehicle. Position will require employee to drive vehicle to various sites within
Ventura County to provide services.
 Coalition for Family Harmony may accommodate to these physical requirements upon request.
OTHER INFORMATION
 Must pass Live Scan background check.
Travel is required for this position. Modes of transportation expected are by car. Must have a valid California driver’s
license, proof of car insurance, a clear DMV record, and access to a functioning and reliable motor vehicle. This position is
eligible for a monthly mileage reimbursement.
 The option to telecommute (or to perform essential job duties at home) is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the
Reporting Manager and, if necessary, by others on the management team.
